I continue to suck at this blogging thing, but I've got some time today so here I am. For those of you who are still in suspense about the end of my last blog, at the end of week #3 I was down another 4.8 lbs. This was a very exciting loss, as I have found that my body alternates between big and small losses. This leads to week #4.
I was really at my whits end with the supplements. I had started doing my own thing trying to get at least one supplement in, and then eating small 160 calorie meals every three hours. This often consisted of 1/2 a 6-inch Subway sandwich or a small can of soup with yogurt. When I got to the doctor that Monday for my appointment my frustration was only compounded by the fact that I only lost 0.4 lbs, waited 30 minutes to get to a room, then another 45 before the doctor came in. As a result I also missed class that night because I waited for so long.
When the doctor walked in I told him I couldn't do the supplements anymore, they make me nauseous and I need something else. I told him I didn't want to quit because I was doing well and still had the motivation; I was ready for him to start belittling me, as he is known to do, but instead he handed me a piece of paper and a pen. "Write this down," he said. One cup high protein cereal for breakfast with skim milk. He recommended Kashi Go Lean. For dinner, 4-5 ounces lean meat (chicken, turkey or fish) with 2 cups green vegetables and one piece of fruit. He then advised me to try and fit in 3 supplements in addition to this for the next 2 weeks. Finally I felt a sense of relief. I took his directions and headed out the door.
That leads us to today. The end of week #5 and I lost another 5.8 pounds for a total of 24!!! To sum things up, I didn't do any supplements this week. Like I said I just can't do them anymore. But I did take the doctor's advise and added high protein cereal to my diet with lean meat, veggies & fruit. I have also started working out and although I have struggled to get in my water everyday I'm doing my best. I won't bore you all with the details of what I eat or when, but I'm proud to say I was even able to go out Saturday night for dinner with friends successfully (including a glass of wine). I will warn you however to stay away from the Kashi Go Lean Crunch.... it is SO good I overate it a few times. Instead yesterday I picked up the regular (more cardboard tasting) original brand and added half a banana to it. It wasn't bad, and with 13 grams of protein and 10 grams of fiber it's a good choice to keep me feeling full. I have realized, however, that sugar is my KRYPTONITE. Since I have been off refined sugar I don't crave sweets, and I'm deathly afraid that if I were to start back up I would fall off the wagon. However, so far my plan is going well and I'm continuing to succeed. Maybe this time I really WILL do it.
As a side note, I have also been offered help from an old high school friend. She is a health and wellness coach at the local hospital (surprisingly the same one that OPTIFAST is thru) and has offered to help me one on one to figure out my habits and continue my weight loss. I'm very excited to have our first meeting, and to have the support of someone that is not family or a close friend for when I need that extra kick in the butt. Today is also the official starting point of my mini-marathon training. I'm very anxious to get back into a consistent workout routine, even if it is just walking. Most of all, after a LONG 10 and a half weeks apart I'm leaving for Arizona on the 14th to see Billy. To say I'm excited would be an understatement. To make it even more suspenseful he is planning the entire weekend as a surprise for me. So far I only know it entails sushi, a hockey game, and probably a hotel room. Needless to say this is just what the doctor ordered. I'm SO excited for the New Year. I have a feeling that 2011 is gonna be my BEST YEAR YET!!!
